We are very excited to be hosting our very first festival of light that is Diwali. As one of India’s most widely celebrated events, Diwali is a Hindu festival of light that celebrates the triumph of good over evil, and light over dark.
Held at the Port Melbourne Primary School on Saturday 19 October between 3:00pm to 6:00pm.

Join us for an afternoon of music, dancing, performances and games. Our very own Port Melbourne Primary School children will be performing. Don’t miss the fun!
Food plays an important role in Diwali celebrations! There will be a great selection of food and market stalls for all to enjoy. All food is vegetarian with vegan options and it is an alcohol free event.
What is Diwali?
Diwali is a Hindu festival of light that celebrates the triumph of good over evil, and light over dark. The word ‘Diwali’ translates as ‘row of lighted lamps’, which are a common feature of the festival. In India, Diwali is the most important holiday on the calendar and is generally celebrated over the course of five days. Festivities vary throughout India and each region has its own particular traditions.
Is Diwali a school fundraiser?
No. This event is for the community of Port Melbourne to celebrate customs and traditions of India.
Will there be food and drinks available?
Yes, food plays an important role in Diwali celebrations so their will be a collection of food and market stalls for purchase.
